Peace starts
within... remain unflappable...
How do you feel?
Are you happy, sad, hurt, joyful, nervous, scared,
angry, serene? Feelings are a barometer for
understanding your self. Developing the
ability to perceive and express the range of
emotions one experiences provides a greater
awareness of one's inner world, and of the self in
relation to the world around them.
How is your self
esteem? Are you confident, energetic,
deserving, capable, self accepting? Self
esteem is how we feel and think about our selves.
This determines how capable we believe we are in
meeting life's challenges. People with healthy
self-esteem know they are worthy of the best in life
and they take responsibility for their actions.
Those with low self-esteem usually feel like
victims.
How is your
character? Are you compassionate, loving,
loyal, wise, fair, honest, tender, generous,
tactful, respectful, courageous, accountable,
dedicated, loyal, understanding, humble, self
controlled? Character is rooted deeply in our
belief system and stays relatively stable over time.
Still, one can develop and improve qualities of
character.
Sometimes we
need to shed self-righteousness, self-defining ways
and other misconceptions in order to see the truth.
Words of peace,
an excerpt from the writings of Louise Diamond, CEO,
The Peace Company
"The faith
traditions that sustain me teach that: Energy
follows thought. We are co-creating this
world we share, through our collective thoughts,
words, and actions.
When we allow
our leaders to weave a story for us that creates a
world of fear and division, it is time to tell
ourselves a new story, one based on hope rather than
fear; on the best that humanity of capable of rather
than the worst; on the possibilities that arise when
we remember we are all sparks of one divine light,
hungering for the peace that is our spiritual
birthright.
Here are
spiritually-oriented set activities all can
participate in:
-
Find a place
of deep inner peace within yourself, and radiate
that energy to those around you.
-
Whatever
your faith tradition, practice prayer or
meditation daily, envisioning and calling forth
a world of peace. Engage whatever spiritual
beings, guides, or masters you relate to for
assistance.
-
Identify
your spiritual role model for peace (may I
suggest Peace Pilgrim, the Dalai Lama, Jesus
Christ, Thich
Nhat Hahn, Desmond Tutu, Martin Luther King Jr.,
Rigoberto Menchu Tum and Mahatma Gandhi as good
places to start?), and study their lives and
their words, incorporating that wisdom into your
own life as best you can.
These are just a few of the
many ways you can awaken and nourish the Spirit of
Peace that exists within us all.
